Our services will feature a homily and Eucharist with the Rev. Dr. Matta Ghaly (he/him - they/them). Growing up in Melkite and Coptic Catholic parishes in Cairo, Matta+ identifies as a faithful Catholic in exile, seeking refuge among Lutherans in order to live out a calling to the priesthood with integrity, openness, and congruence (along with the occasional annoyance). After their formation in a Benedictine Community, Matta went on to study liberation theology (Master of Arts) at the Graduate Theological Union (Berkeley, CA), prepare for ordained ministry (Master of Divinity) at Luther Seminary (St. Paul, MN), and pursue a doctoral degree at United Seminary, exploring how the liturgy can be a container in which our parts and communities can heal, grow, and transform. Having served as an interim and settled parish pastor at the synodical and churchwide levels, on the margins, and right at the center, Matta now weaves spiritual direction, certified professional coaching, and itinerant preaching in their call to ministry, along with serving as an assistant professor of theology at Starr King School for the Ministry. Matta is delighted to connect and journey at the pace of trust and relationship, so please reach out and connect anytime through mattaghaly.com.
