The word Advent means coming. During Advent, we set aside time to prepare the way for Christ’s coming among us.
With that context in mind, we welcome you to please join us in the following Advent opportunities:
Advent Wreath
Each Sunday when we gather for worship at 10:00 a.m. in the sanctuary or via the Zoom balcony, we will light candles on the Advent wreath to count down to the celebration of the incarnation on Christmas Eve. We invite you to join us in lighting your own Advent wreath at home each day. If you do not already have an Advent wreath for your home, you can search online for ways you can make one or places from which you can buy one.
Advent Devotional
We have a wonderful Advent devotional book to guide us through the season: Meeting God and One Another in Thick Darkness. The devotions, which invite us to slow down, pay attention, and share stories, were mailed to all members in our database. If you are not a member but would like a copy, please email office@spiritofgracepdx.org to request a copy.
Extending Care to Our Neighbors in Need
Our final Sunday gathering on Zoom, November 28, will focus on Care to Share. Care to Share’s mission is to coordinate assistance to families and individuals seeking emergency food and other basic needs. The goal is to help people through crisis situations and to connect them with other services for other support.
We are also invited to contribute toward holiday gifts and food for families in need from Whitford Middle School, as you saw in the Giving Tree email that went out yesterday.
Wednesday Evening Advent Gatherings at 7:00 pm (Hybrid)
Join us in the sanctuary or from home via the Zoom balcony for the following opportunities to rest, retreat, and receive:
December 8: Live piano concert with Jasnam Daya Singh
December 15: Holden Evening Prayer vespers worship
Please join us as we slow down, pay attention, and share stories of the ways God met the world in thick darkness and ways God still meets us there today.
