All are welcome to this Holden Evening Prayer service as part of Holden Village's Prayer Around the World week. Invite a friend and join us as we together create space for beauty, music, prayer, reflection, and community. After the service, we’ll have Holden Scoops (ice cream) and, if the weather permits, a luminaria-lit labyrinth for walking as the evening gets dark. Freewill donations for Holden Village will be welcomed.
What does it mean to seek truth in a world where reality itself can feel uncertain? From questions of faith and science to the influence of politics, privilege, and AI, many of us are wrestling with what is true—and how we know. Young adults (ages 18–40) are invited to gather for an evening of relaxed, meaningful conversation with others from a variety of faith communities. We’ll share a meal, hear a brief reflection to spark thought, and engage in both small and large group dialogue. Near the end, we will reflect on how it went and whether we would like to meet again. Whether you come with questions, convictions, or curiosity, there’s a place for you at the table.
Sponsored by four Beaverton-area congregations—Spirit of Grace, Cedar Hills United Church of Christ, St. Andrew Lutheran, and Christ United Methodist Church Cedar Mill—this is a first-time experiment in community and conversation. Come help shape it! For more information, contact Sophie Caesar or Pastor Robyn.

Help freshen up our indoor and outdoor spaces in preparation for the new season! All ages are welcome—there’s something for everyone to do! Childcare will be available from 10 am - 2 pm. A light lunch will be available. Whether you can stay for an hour or the whole time, come ready to lend a hand, enjoy fellowship, and help keep our church home welcoming and beautiful for all. A sign-up sheet will be available in the entry hall (to help plan for food), or just show up. Questions? Contact Margaret Armstrong.
Our Lenten season will begin with a soup supper featuring soup and bread by Chef Ed Fuentes in partnership with Thrivent. A freewill offering will benefit the emergency needs of students at McKay Elementary School.
Lent has traditionally been a season of the church year in which we prepare for the Easter celebration by turning our hearts to God through prayer, fasting, and acts of service. This Lenten season we are offering the following opportunities:
Intern Pax has compiled this year's Lenten Devotional, Journeying Towards Liberation Together, with submissions from our community. They will be available at the Ash Wednesday service, if not sooner. Email Intern Pax for instructions on getting a digital copy.
Continue to join us every Wednesday of Lent, February 25 through March 25, at 7 pm for a 30-minute worship service reflecting on James Cone's book The Cross and the Lynching Tree, exploring the connection between these tools of violence and how the oppressed have resisted and created liberation despite the threats of empire.
Further small group study of the book will be available before the Wednesday evening services at 5:45 pm. If you are interested in participating, please sign up on the clipboard in the entry hall this Sunday or email Intern Pax.
EcoFaith Recovery invites you to a practical, hopeful training to help households, congregations, and neighborhoods prepare together for emergencies so we’re not alone when crises come. Using Oregon’s Be 2 Weeks Ready program, this 90-minute session offers simple, doable, steps for preparedness while strengthening relationships and mutual aid. A light lunch will be available at noon, and a raffle will be held at the end for some free disaster supplies. Learn more and register here.
The Palestine Exception is a searing and unflinchingly honest account of what it means to stand for something, and the immense consequences of speaking up. This is a vital documentary for our present moment, but also a terrifying look at how institutional power has always tried – and will always try – to enforce silence on every last one of its critics. – Omar El Akkad, Novelist and Journalist, author of “One Day, Everyone Will Have Always Been Against This”
Join us to view this documentary, followed by a Q&A with film producer Marlene Eid. Visit https://palestineexceptionfilm.com/ for more information on the film. Donations welcome. Sponsored by the Holy Land Ministry at Spirit of Grace, and Friends of Sabeel-Portland Metro Chapter.
You are invited to explore what unity consciousness is and how it can inform both our practice of centering prayer and our life in this challenging world of separation, distraction, and rapid change. Some prior experience with centering prayer is helpful. Donations accepted at the door. Email Gini Graham to register.
Optional events include Centering Prayer (9-9:30 am) and a BYO lunch for an informal discussion (12:30-1:30 pm)
David Frenette is the author of The Path of Centering Prayer: Deepening Your Experience of God, and a spiritual director/transpersonal counselor (now retired). He studied and worked closely with Father Thomas Keating for 35 years, and co-founded and co-led Chrysalis House, a Christian contemplative retreat community under Fr. Keating’s guidance.
Those who find the holiday season difficult are welcome to join Intern Pax for a Tidings of Comfort service. Whether you are grieving the loss of a loved one, mourning the suffering in the world, or simply needing space for sadness in a season that often rushes toward superficial joy, you are welcome. There will be no expectation to share personal grief aloud. Participants may choose to write down who or what they are grieving and place it in a basket; after the service, each person may draw a note to carry with them in prayer—a reminder that we do not carry these burdens alone. An informal gathering with hot apple cider (and possibly cookies) will follow.
All are welcome as we celebrate the season of light, hope, and community!
Food. Drink. Carolers. Online admission: GA $16.96 & Youth $7.95. Parking is free in the lot, or take a shuttle from Parkrose and Sumner Park & Ride.
RSVP to April Sandoval by December 7.
Bring a friend to share this documentary by Pierre Sauvage.
A light lunch will be provided at 12:30. Film will start promptly at 1:00 pm with a discussion from 2:35-3:00 pm. RSVP at https://tinyurl.com/WeaponsSpirit. Presented by the Cocreating Beloved Community and Solidarity & Sanctuary teams.
Between services, Intern Pax (they/them) will be holding intentional space for grief in the sanctuary, both in person and on Zoom. Feel free to have a candle nearby, a story to share of a loved one who has died, some tissues, and the spaciousness to hold some intentional presence with and for each other. We will check in with ourselves and each other about what we're carrying on this tender feast day. There will be poetry, reflection questions, and an invitation for brief story sharing. Come as you are with whatever capacity you have to tend to all the emotions that come with loss and remembrance.
